Give Kids the Gift of Lifelong Friendships, Physical Wellness, Self-Esteem & Empowerment
...While They Have a TON of Fun!
YOU HAVE A BIG KID!
DO THEY NEED LOTS OF HELP...
- Listening to instructions and following through, often being told to do something a hundred times before they actually do anything?
- Paying attention and staying focused on tasks at home and school, even though they’re bright and intelligent?
- Managing the challenges of a documented attention or behavioral diagnosis?
- Making friends, entering unfamiliar situations, or just simply lack the confidence and self- esteem needed to live up to their full potential?
PARENTING IS HARD
LUCKILY THERE IS A VILLAGE TO SUPPORT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
The dojo is a community space, where our students and their families can develop relationships and life skills in a safe and supportive environment. Our instructors don’t just teach martial arts techniques, they mentor your kids in the lifelong practice of self-discipline, hard work, self-esteem, and respect. Martial arts empowers them while also teaching them responsibility, compassion, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Martial Arts really is that awesome – it’s been proven over thousands of years, in every corner of the world!
A LITTLE BIT BETTER EVERY CLASS!
Big kids use their actively developing minds and bodies to absorb skills and knowledge quickly and easily, often showing improvement after just one class. As they continue their martial arts journey, they’ll learn new skills and develop a sense of empowerment along with their growing independence.
Along with increased physical health and endurance, they’re also learning the value of self-discipline and respect. Martial arts builds skills kids can use in every season – at home, at school, and in athletics of all kinds.
RESPECT IS THE FOUNDATION OF MARTIAL ARTS
Kids who respect themselves and others are more likely to excel in school and in life. Respecting the boundaries of safety, rank, and teamwork is the most basic skill required to participate – it’s an easy way to remind kids to be good examples.
Our students learn to show respect to their instructors and fellow students by paying attention, following instructions, and obeying the rules. They can’t succeed–or even get on the mat–if they can’t. It’s that simple.
Eventually, the instinct to respect themselves and others becomes deeply ingrained – and they carry it with them forever.
SELF-DISCIPLINE IS THE SIDE-EFFECT OF MARTIAL ARTS
It’s hard to succeed in life without the self-discipline to keep going even when things are difficult.
Our students learn self-discipline and persistence. Martial arts training requires true diligence and that’s not possible without self-discipline.
Students are held to the highest standard of behavior at all times – and the discipline they learn here will help them everywhere else.
EMPOWERMENT IN THE FACE OF BULLYING
Kids who are bullied often suffer from low self-esteem, live in a constant state of fear, and exhibit poor school performance. Our martial artists learn practical self-defense skills – and even more importantly, how and when to use them.
Martial arts teaches kids to be confident and self-assured – and to stand up for others in the face of bullying behavior.
Martial arts builds the mental, emotional, and physical strength kids need to believe in themselves, so they’re resilient in the face of hurtful experiences.
MARTIAL ARTISTS ARE REAL LIFE SUPERHEROES
Bullying behavior often comes from a lack of self-respect and confidence. Kids seek targets for their negative energy and feelings – martial arts gives them a positive physical and emotional outlet for those feelings.
With a strong emphasis on self-discipline and respect, martial arts teaches kids that power comes with responsibility and boundaries.
In our dojo, kids learn that self-respect can’t exist without respect for others.
MARTIAL ARTS IS A LIFELONG WELLNESS PRACTICE
Lessons your child learns now about physical fitness will follow them into adulthood.
Martial arts teaches kids about their bodies, and the value of physical strength and endurance.
Through drills and games, kids learn to push themselves and pursue fitness goals at their own pace.
Martial arts launches kids into a lifetime of good health, and a healthy body image that they’ll keep throughout their lives.
KICK THOSE COUCH POTATO HABITS
Martial arts embraces two essential elements for strength and endurance: cardiovascular activity and core and muscle toning through warmups, drills, and partner games.
Students develop fitness and confidence by reaching achievable goals, and focusing on small improvements.
A focus on self-discipline can help kids nurture consistency in their physical activity, which can prevent weight gain and encourage healthy behaviors for a lifetime.
MARTIAL ARTS IS MORE THAN TECHNIQUE
Childhood education lays the groundwork for success in later life. Unfortunately for kids, most academic environments aren’t able to meet them where they are.
For kids struggling in school, studying martial arts can be magical. By providing kids with a natural outlet for their energy – and helping them practice self-discipline, focus, and respect in a completely different arena – martial arts can lead to better grades, more engagement, and increased self-confidence.
MARTIAL ARTS HELPS KIDS LEARN PERSISTENCE
It’s common for kids who perform poorly in school to believe that they’re not capable of doing better. Disappointment, frustration, and punishments can dampen enthusiasm for learning.
As martial artists, kids learn how to take hits, and keep going – a skill they carry into the classroom, where they can cope with setbacks, work hard, and move forward.
Persistence and self-discipline in martial arts classes apply directly to school, and all aspects of their lives.

MARTIAL ARTS IS FOR ALL AGES & ABILITIES
And we mean ALL.
Kids with an array of abilities can struggle with certain things that other kids might find easy. In our martial arts school, instructors meet kids where they are – working to accommodate your child’s special needs.
Kids need exercise and active friendships, even if they can’t “keep up on the playing field”. Martial arts isn’t about “keeping up” with anyone but yourself.
Martial arts gives kids with special needs a place to excel on their own terms.
MARTIAL ARTS IS THE GREAT EQUALIZER
Kids with motor difficulties learn coordination and build core strength at a level that suits their individual needs and capabilities.
Martial arts help kids use their bodies along with their mental and physical capabilities in a safe and encouraging environment.
At Focus Mixed Martial Arts, everyone is equal on the mat, and that helps kids with special needs belong to a welcoming community.
WE’RE A MOTLEY CREW, AND WE’RE PROUD OF IT!
Big kids and tweens need to identify with a group, it’s an important part of their development. But in school they can get labeled: the fat kid, the clumsy kid, and so on. In our dojo, we’re all just martial artists.
Martial arts teaches big kids to trust themselves and their abilities. Their confidence soars, and their sense of self becomes clearer – so no matter the labels that are put on by others, they know who they are.
Physical empowerment leads to intellectual and emotional self-esteem, and martial arts can help kids carry themselves with a profound sense of self-confidence and authority.
WE CALL IT FOCUS FOR A REASON
We chose the name Focus Mixed Martial Arts with intention. Our curriculum places a strong emphasis on the importance of focus, and that carries over to home and the classroom, as well as the playground and beyond.
Through repetition and evolution, kids must focus to excel in our martial arts school. Our students use this mental discipline to avoid distractions and pursue their goals.
Kids today have TikTok attention spans, and martial arts training can help keep their eyes on the prize.
